A delightful surprise... fr my friends

So blessed by my team today... they surprised me with flowers for my 13th Wedding Anniversary!�

I almost didn't come into office today... cos' I was WOO (Workin' Outta Office) for part of the day.�But I'm glad I did...�

The 1st thing I noticed was that my office door was not locked.. which was kinda strange. Actually, just before that...as I walked past the CreaComm office area, Tina (our new STINTer) said 'Hi'. She has a big smile... which I thot was rather unusual, but i didn't think much about it.

As I stepped into the office, I was greeting but a bouquet of flowers, and a big beautiful laminated card! I said 'Wai seh...' �Then from behind all the folks converged.. and shouted. (forgot what they shouted, but it definitely created a v.celebratory mood!)

Thanks guys..�You guys are so thoughtful and so sweet...�

Thks also Cly for representing the rest, and for praying for Lil & me in our marriage. (da, I really wish u were there w me too!)�

Headed to Mumbai...

Next week, I'm going to Mumbai, India for a fact-finding and vision trip.
It will be from 16th to 21st March.

There's a concerted effort (fr various organizations & churches) to make an impact there.
We (my co-worker John and I) were invited because of our media/short-film background to join in this 'recce trip'.

Pray for us that we have sensitive hearts to God, and open eyes to see the needs and opportunities that are there.
Pray that God would grow our compassion for the lost through this trip.
Pray for spiritual protection, and physical safety in our travels as well.

Lillian will home with the kids. Do uphold them in prayer as well.
Joshua, Emily and Zachary can be quite a rowdy bunch... =)

Long silence...

Yep, it's been a while since I last posted...
And the truth is, once u lose the momentum, it's kinda hard to get it back.
Actually the same can be said of my exercise routine... everyday, I can feel my 'middle' getting rounder.. and everytime I 'feel it' (when I put my pants on, or sit down.. haha) I keep reminding myself that I gotta get back the routine!!

Good news is that I finally did get back to some kind of exercise... tho' not as frequent as I'd like to. So far, it's been a bit of roller-blading (once or max twice a week), and then cycling (1 or 2 times so far in the past 2 wks) Yes, I got myself a new bike!! Every Pasir Ris resident has gotta have a bike! And God provided a bike (a loan one for now) for Lil too. We also got bicycles for the kids.

Anyway, we'll share more of our adventures in Pasir Ris in another post, another time.

For now, this is a simple post to 'get back into the blogging action'. It's true that Life has been busy busy.. but I really feel writing, and 'documenting it' or blogging about it should be part of it.
I'm really hoping, that this will become more consistent, and intentional.... so watch out for it. (esp. for those of you who do take time to read these posts)

Christmas in Pasir Ris!

We finally moved!! On the eve of Christmas...

We spent the Christmas morning going for a little walk as a family, doing a little 'tour' of our immediate neighbourhood... It was nice cool pleasant morning, and we're so thankful that we're finally here.

It's been a good 6 months or so waiting.. since we 1st laid eyes on this apartment in July, 2008. I can't believe that we're finally here.. and living here.

Our hearts are overflowing with thanksgiving to God for his provision...
tho' the truth is, the house is currently "overflowing" with boxes, and furniture, and stuff... waiting to be sorted out into the right places.

Finally in Indiana...

I'm here. In Indiana. In Fishers, IN to be precise.
Got in last evening... The stop at LA for one nite helped quite a bit to 'break' the jet lag. I even managed to go for a workout at the gym in the hotel while I was there.

The weather here is quite nice, about 10-15 deg C, which is managable. Last nite tho' was a little cold tho'. (I'm sleeping in the basement) Woke up abt 3plus am to turn on the heater fan.. which I'm thankful I have.

Boogii (from the Mongolia music ministry) passed it to me, cos' he didn't need it in his room. He's used to freezing temperatures in his country anyways... =) Last nite we chatted, it's great to see God at work in his ministry (it's now official!) Thankful that we had a part to play in their history through the years. Tho' we all wld have loved to see it grow faster, we recognize that God's timing is the best timing afterall!

The summit starts off this evening with Keynote's Vision Dinner (a key fund-raising event for their ministry) I'll be playing a small part in the program. I think I'll be interviewed, and share about Keynote's partnership with Singapore. And how they helped get us started years ago... 16 years to be exact!

Long long flight...

Going to the airport in 1/2 hours' time... have mixed feelings about the long long flight...
I'm headed to the US... final destination Indianapolis, Indiana. Will be there for a Global Music and Creative Arts Ministry Leaders' Summit, hosted by Keynote (our US counterpart ministry).

On one hand, I know I get to 'rest' a little from the hectic and packed schedule the past 2-3 weeks.. it'd be a little 'breather', where I get a little bit more space for think time etc. Yet on the other hand, I know I'd be confined to a fairly small space for almost 20 hours... (Just few days back I already almost couldn't 'tahan' a 3 hour flight to Macau with Lil!!)

Anyways, I'd appreciate your prayers for me, as I'd be traveling alone this time round. Will be transiting in LA... stay one nite there (to break the journey), and then leave the next morning for Indianapolis. Please also pray for Lil and the kids. I know I'm gonna miss them a lot... considering that it's quite a long trip overall. (Will be back Nov 11th)

My last in-camp training!

Today I received news that I've been quietly hoping for a while. However, it was not a frantic 'If-I-don't-get-it-I'll-die' kinda waiting... I've come to a place of surrender... leaving the whole issue to Him, knowing that He knows what's best for me.

Yes, I've been hoping that this current in-camp training with my army unit, would be my last one. And today, we looked at the MR list and there was a 'Yes' next to my name! I couldn't believe it first... Anyway, MR basically means that we go into Mindef Reserve (in layman terms, it simply means we no longer have the yearly in-camp trainings obligation anymore!)

For most (if not all) men in Singapore, these are the letters they most wish to hear...during their NS days... beside ROD or ORD! =) For me, it's been long time coming... I'm almost hitting 40, and I'm only just finishing my commitment to National Service. Most of my platoon mates are only about 30, and they're done!
(This is mostly due to the fact that I deferred quite a number of times, plus I was studying abroad a good 4 years)

Then in the evening another pleasant surprise. I received my long-service award- which bascially honor servicmen for 10 years of faithful service to the nation. In a nice red box, was a beautiful gold-plated medal, plus a nice Hamilton watch, and little SAF tie pin. I'm no SAF fan per se, but I felt good... and appreciated to receive this gift from them.

Somehow, there's bittersweet feelings... Somehow I felt 'sad' that this could very well be my last time wearing the army uniforms, firing the SAR21 (rifle), going out into the jungle etc. At the same time I'm glad it's all 'over'. Unless there's a real war, those who MR will prob be just civilians from now on...

So this is my last in-camp training.. and quite a relax one at that.
Today is Day 2, and even though I failed my 2.4k run (by only 3 seconds), my spirits are high.
It was cool also to be able to re-connect with some friends, and trust God for PDA encounters. I'm praying for more of those...

Frantic packing... Yieeeks!

One more day, and the movers are coming!! Yieeks... we've not finished packing!

Despite all our efforts, (and my wife has worked SOOO hard! Thank u darling...) we've yet to finish up packing up all our stuff. It's amazing to see how much stuff we really have in the house! And how much stuff we don't really need. We've taken this opportunity to de-clutter... but I must admit that it's not been easy.

I get really stressed when I have to pack my things. I'm really bad at decided whether I should keep things or throw them. I get too sentimental when I begin lookin all my things (some dating back to Poly days...) But today's packing, I was literally throwing things. If I paused for an extra second or so, I might have decided to keep it!

Actually, I'd much prefer if Lil packed it for me, that way I don't see what she's throwin away. hehe....

Car accident

On Tuesday nite, we were involved in a rather serious car accident...

We're just very thankful that in spite of the seriousness of the accident (it was a 4 car pile up; we were the 2nd car, and we were hit twice from behind)... we didn't sustain any injuries.

In fact, moments before the accident I (Simon) remember turning back to the kids, and asking Zach to put his seat belt properly. And Josh's lap belt, which is usually kept quite loose, was properly tightened this time! Praise God for his watch care and protection over our lives.

We were quite shaken up initially (kids were crying for about 5 mins after the accident) but then when we calmed down, we were quite relieved that everyone was ok. And that the main cabin of the car was still intact, and no broken glass etc.

By his grace, we're all doing fine. Lil and I went to see the doctor the next day, our necks were slightly strained, got headaches off and on. Doc says to just monitor..., but overall seems ok. In the morning God provided a doctor friend fr church (a pediatrician actually!) who came over to our house to check up on our kids. She says they look fine too. In fact, today the kids went out with with Pat and family (and some others) to East Coast in the afternoon. Zach had a fall, and had to go to NUH A+E, but he was alright, just a big bruise on his forehead and near his left eye.

Anyway, do pray that as the accident repairs get sorted out, cos' in a chain collision like that, it's quite complicated, and the lawyers of various car workshops would have to 'fight it out' to figure out who to 'blame' etc. What's worse is that last car in the chain is a malaysian vehicle (which is sometimes impossible to make a claim from)

Terrible F1 accident!!

I just got news from a friend... that there was a terrible F1 accident!!

Bad News

The recent financial meltdown, and the uncertainties that come with it reminded me of this short-film that our ministry recently did.

The secret to growth: 'Die'

1 Corinthians 15:36b 'When you put a seed into the ground, it doesn't grow into a plant unless it dies first'

Such a paradox. How to die when actually your intention is to live and grow? How can you grow when you're supposed to die? Somehow it doesn't make sense, and yet it does make sense. Well, a paradox is basically two seemingly contradictory statements or expressions... that actually reveals a compelling truth!

This cannot be more true in real life experience, I desire the growth, but don't want the 1st process required: 'death'. Dying to myself, dying to sin and flesh... Yet I know that's what God is calling me to. His requirement for true discipleship is clear 'If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.' (Luke 9:23)

In the same passage (in 1 Cor 15) God opened my eyes to v.43 'our bodies are buried in brokenness but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness but will be raised in strength.'

A reminder yet again (and a very timely one) that: 'I'm not perfect, I'm not complete.. and He's not done with me yet...'

Thank you Lord, for not giving up on me....

Zachary opened his heart to Jesus!!

Yesterday, when I got back in the night, Zachary run up to me and said...'Daddy, daddy, today I prayed to Jesus, and asked him to come into my heart.. and so now He's in my heart...' (He went on to tell me other things but I was so excited to hear this I didn't pay much attention to it....

So I immediately checked with Lil what happened... As it turned out, sometime in the evening, while Lil was making apple cider vinegar for the kids, Zach was singing 'I have decided to follow Jesus'... Lil seized the moment, and asked him if he wanted to follow Jesus, then went on to explain what it means to have Jesus in his heart etc. Then Lil asked him if he wants to have Jesus as your God. And he said 'Yes!'

Then our cute little Zach (still in the kitchen) squatted down, bent over, closed his eyes, and repeated after mommy the simple prayer to receive Jesus into his heart!

After hearing all that, I sat down and chatted with Zach somemore, and went thru an assurance of salvation, as simply as I could. (but found out later that Lil had done it too!) haha... we're all Crusade trained lor...

Thank you Lord for loving Zach, and for stirring his little heart to respond to your love!
Zach is turning 4 end of next month. And so, he's received Christ even earlier than Josh and Emily. I led Josh to pray after watching 'Finding Nemo', when he was 5. I can't remember exactly when Em prayed.. hehe....but I think it's when she was about 4+

Workshop went quite well

Thanks all who took time to sms and asked about the workshop we conducted at GO Forth. =) And thank u especially to many of you who prayed. It made a difference!

It went on quite smoothly! I was very thankful to my team, who played various roles to make it a success. There were about 80 people who attended our session. At the end of it, about 50 filled up comment cards, and about 90% of them said it met their expectations, and that it helped them in one way or another.

For a workshop like that that catered to such a wide spectrum of people (from lay people or anyone with interest in missions, to practioners and pastors) with various needs and interests, the response we got was considered quite encouraging! We of course did get some constructive comments, and hope to improve for the next time we teach/present something like that.

Personally, I was just thankful that I had the opportunity to bless others with what God has been depositing in my heart all this while. I can only trust that whatever I've shared (and what my colleagues have shared) has inspired them, and challenged them to take another step in the direction God wants them to take!

A opportunity to teach and train...

Tomorrow, I'll be leading a small team from my ministry to share, present and teach at a workshop which is part of the GO Forth National Missions Conference- The topic we've been given is called 'Reaching Generation NeXt: Youth, Media and Missions'.

Then next week (25,26th July), the whole CreaComm team will be part of the Hearts Aflame Evangelism Conference . We'll be conducting altogether 3 different workshops. ('The Gospel Through Music', 'Stories of the Heart (Using short-film for outreach), 'Making the Gospel Click' (Internet Ministry)).

These two opportunities, I believe, are truly God-given. Yet, the honest truth is that I feel quite out of my depth (particularly for the parts that I'm supposed to teach/present). It will only be by his grace that I 'make it'...

I'm treasuring the opportunity, as I prepare, to gather my thoughts and to share with others what God has been laying upon my heart.

It's our prayer that those who attend these session be truly inspired by God, and more passionate about going out there to be more effective for Him in 'reaching the changing generations'.

I'm coveting your prayers for me, and also for my team that is doing some of the presentation with me. =)

18 viewings over two weekends... and finally a deal!

After 18 apartment viewings, from 5-Room to EA (Executive Apartment) to EM (Executive Mansionette) we finally signed and made the deal... for a 149 sqm EA!

How we ended with this deal was nothing short of amazing!

First off, we were actually looking for a 5-Room flat. But many friends advised us to seriously consider leveraging on the HDB concessionary loan (which would mean that we needed to upgrade to EA or EM, cos' of HDB's condition for using this special loan) After doing our sums, we felt that this might be a wiser move.

By the 10th or 11th viewing, we actually found something we really like, but it was a little over our original budget. It was a EM in the area we preferred, and we quite liked it cos' it was very well designed and done up. We had very little to fix up if we got this place. Key concerns tho' was that it was not as spacious, and had few storage places.

After praying that nite, we made an initial offer... but hesitated to jump at the 1st counter offer from the owner. On Thursday, I was thinking that I might be quite happy to make a final offer of $505k, and we were quite ready to go it!

Interestingly, that very day we decided to view 2 more units.

The very last unit we viewed was at Block 249. Up to this point, we've been concentrating on blocks in the 600 or 700 series. This particular ad (which was online) caught my attention, and I decided to check it out. What stood out about this unit was that it was valued at $392k! (Most EA units were valued at at least 450 - 470k).

As we took the lift up to the unit on 5th floor, I reminded Lil that we should probably 'manage our expectations'. We can't really expect 'much' from a unit that is valued so 'low'.

True enough, it was no designer house... but it was really well-kept. It was awfully spacious...
3 bedrooms, plus 1 large study room, 1 kitchen, and 1 huge living room. Best part is- they were asking for $425k... Needless to say, we 'fell in love with it'!

It was a fairly quiet neighbourhood, very windy, and surprises of surprises, the block is right next to the Multi-Storey carpark. This was originally one of my key requirements! which I had forgotten, but God didn't forget!

So that night we talked and prayed as a family when we got back... and made the offer of 18k COV (Cash over valuation). After a few rounds of negotiation between Peter (our housing agent) and the other agent, we finally agreed on $418k!

The very next day (Friday nite, 8pm), we went down again to ink the deal!

The owner had requested to move out later (cos' it's exams time in end October; and their girl goes to a nearby Primary school). We were quite reluctant as first, but God prompted me to be gracious to the their request.

It turned out that b'cos they were open to contra (which was Lil's hope+prayer all along) we're actually getting this flat earlier, otherwise it'd be easily another 1-3 months more because we'd have to wait for the 1st deal (the sale of our current house) to go thru 1st, before we can proceed with this purchase.

So if all goes well, we'll be in our new house (after some fixing and renovation) by end 2008!
We're truly blessed....

House sold!! And the lesson of praying expectantly...

In less than 2 months after we decided to sell our apartment... it's now officially SOLD!! =)

After the valuation of the flat was done in May (which by God's grace was a good valuation!) our housing agent, Peter put up ads in the Classifieds. It garnered very little response... I was kinda disappointed. Many calls, but few viewings. (The only viewing was fr the sister-in-law of my Malay neighbour. She really liked it, but they didn't have enough cash to buy)

Undaunted, I decided to put up some online ads and put up pretty pictures of my house, in hopes that it'd draw some attention. I even went around the estate putting up 'FOR SALE' posters. I think I put up close to 20 posters at the neighbouring blocks, but the next day I noticed they were ALL torn down! Who would do something like that? I was so upset... =(

Anyway, someone eventually did respond to one of the online ads. And this someone was this girl called Ashley (her husband and her are professionals fr China, workin here in S'pore). And one really interested person was enough...

Long story short... this girl really liked the apartment! She told us later than she fell in love with it just by looking at the pictures I posted! And it was the only unit she saw (believe it or not!) She had done her homework in terms of price etc. But this was the only apartment she had viewed in her house search. She came with her parents once, and a second time with her husband. The very next day, she made an offer!!

And abt a week later, after several rounds of negotiation...we closed the deal!! Just like that!
I remembered asking CCO (my office team) to pray that we can sell our flat soon, so that we can take our next step of looking for a place in Pasir Ris.

Me of little faith, I didn't expect God to answer this prayer soooo quickly!!
(Why should I expect God to answer... when I pray? Why pray then, if I didn't expect him to answer??) It so delights God to answer our prayers. Much like the joy and delight we feel as parents when we bring something special back for our kids, or give them or take them to someplace they had requested for a while. It brings a smile to them, and to us too!

Our heavenly Father was all too happy to answer our request that day!

Anyway, Lil and I are really thankful...
The kids have mixed feelings... They are feeling kinda sad that we'll have to move soon.
Josh wld frown and say, "But I like our Choa Chu Kang house... ".
Truth is, it's kinda weird feeling for us too, we're have a bittersweet feeling too.. esp. when we accepted the $5k deposit, and signed the papers... this was it, this is literally signing 'away' our lovely home for the past 6+ years...

Moving East!!

That's right... we are planning to move.
It's been on our minds for a while now, but up until March/April this year, we had no time to work on it, and fully explore it.

But after lots of discussion, thinking thru all the possibilities we've decided that we want to move to Pasir Ris!! Lotsa of you who knew about out last decision (abt 6 years back) when we decided to find our home in Choa Chu Kang (way out there in Northwest) would surely be wondering why the 'big move'... and now to the NorthEast! =)

Well here are the key reasons.
1. It's in the East (well sorta... but older towns like Bedok or ChaiChee don't appeal to us; Tampines is way too complicated/croweded, Marine Parade is too ex etc.)
2. It's 15 mins or less from all our activities (work, church, family (both Lil's mom, and my parents)
3. It's very near our homeschool group! Most of the homeschool friends+families that are part of that group live in that town or nearby. There's good support overall.

This last reason is key 'selling point' for us. Of course it helps that Pasir Ris is known as the 'Resort' town of Singapore. Many park connectors, and much much greenery everywhere! Great for us as a family for more outdoors activities as a family!

So starting from April, we had put our house up for sale...

Several towns had been wiped out in the earthquake with at least 40,000 lives lost. The casualty numbers continue to escalate.

Besides praying for these victims, we hope to do more. We will be working closely with the medical teams that will be sent out from Missions Medical Clinic headed by Dr Leong Choon Kit, an associate of SCCC.

The following are ways that you could help:

1. BE PART OF A DISASTER RELIEF TEAM.
Being part of the medical teams to bring in medical and logistical supplies to Chengdu as well as help the relatives of the victims (Briefing on post-trauma counseling will be conducted). All participants are required to pay for the total cost of the trip. (estimated cost per pax is $ 1,500). There will also be a pre-trip briefing for each team.

One highlight from Thailand...

Yep, I'm back.. didn't realize how tired I was... Last nite I slept at abt 8plus in the nite, thot I could get up early...yet struggled out of bed even at 8am!

Last wk, during the conference, I was up by 6am almost every day, so as to spend some time in the word, hurry to breakfast, and head down to the hall to get ready to lead worship. Each day's session starts at 8am! =)

One highlight of this trip for me was interacting with the Pakistan national leadership team. A few of us in the SCCC NLT (national leadership team) had the opportunity to sit with them to hear them share about their leadership dreams, the challenges they face, and the joys of seeing people coming to the Lord. For me, it was quite a blessed time, to hear of the work in Pakistan, which is 93% muslim. Yet in spite of all the persecutions and difficulties, I could see the joy in their faces as they talk about how many need to come to saving knowledge of Jesus.

In this picture, on my left is the National Director of Pakistan. He's got 3 kids too! And guess what, he's same age as me! The handsome guy on my right is only 28! Currently leading the Training Center, he'll be the next Operations Director in August.

Traveling again...

Oh boy, it's been long long time since my last post...

Yep, I'm going on another work trip. A conference in Pattaya, Thailand.
This is actually the East Asia Leadership Conference for Campus Crusade.

I'll be leading worship (with another colleague), plus just networking, meeting various folks from different countries. =)

Have mixed feelings about leaving yet again. I know that this is privilege, (to serve God, to meet others, to learn and to grow) but I feel the 'pain' of leaving my family yet again. Yet I'm sorta looking forward to a slightly different pace and environment. The past weeks have been quite hectic, moving into our new office. (We're now at 152, Paya Lebar Road! Come visit sometime!)

It's snowing!!

On our way back to the hotel, right after we got off the subway (we commute every day for 40min to the conference site), it began to snow! Well actually, more like snow flurries.. However, according to weather forecast it's gonna get heavier (2 inches of snow). Actually, as I write this now, it's gotten heavier, the cars outside, on the street are now blanketed with a thin layer of snow... sweet!

For those of you who didn't know, I'm here in New York to attend both a conference and a meeting. The conference/gathering is about how artists (and creative people) can make a significant impact on our society. It's organized by IAM- International Artists Movement Right after this conference, about 50 Crusade staff (from various ministries) will meet (for 1 1/2 days) to talk about how to encourage the hearts of Creatives in our ministries.

The past few sessions have been rather interesting & thot-provoking.... but I'm now too jet-lagged to go on with this blog. But would appreciate your prayers for me as I continue to process the stuff I've heard, so that I can learn and grow, specifically to know how I can better lead the bunch of Creatives that God has placed in my ministry.

Getting Naked...

Our Campus Ministry has just launched the “Naked i” campaign. It’s an integrated campaign to reach 150,000 students in the universities, polys and JCs on to topics of love, sex and relationships.

The 'Naked i' magazine, as I write, is being distributed to the various campuses this whole season... and our ministry (Creative Communications) is 'getting into the action' with them through various events and programs.

Soul2Soul, a band of ForeRunner (our music ministry kicks off this evening with a music café at NUS, where the band will play songs about love and relationships. As part of their program, they'll also screen one of our short films (produced by our short-film ministry, Wide Angle Productions) to start the people talking about their lives.

This is quite a significant partnership, as it is also our first major outreach as an integrated ministry. Pray along with us....

Soul2Soul going 'on the road'

Coverage 2008 - The Naked I Campaign

This huge Campus-wide campaign I've been sharing so much about has finally been LAUNCHED! As we speak, many University campuses in Singapore have started massive distribution of the magazine, Naked I, as the first pre-evangelistic strategy to engage people in talking about love, sex and relationships.

Following that are other multiple media strategies on campuses like lunch time talks on various relevant topics, screening of locally produced short films on related topics, cafe/pub events and even a evangelistic website called everystudent.com which will feature articles on relationships, love, sex and Christianity. All of these are NOT out to make a stand about sex, but more meant to serve as multiple platforms to people to talk and dialogue about relevant life issues and, God willing, share about their spiritual journeys. I am very VERY EXCITED because this is, by far, the most integrated set of ministry strategies that I have ever seen us come up with!

Please pray:
a) for continued favour from authorities to distribute the magazines freely
b) that God prepare the hearts of non-believers we come into contact with
c) for us to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and discern how God wants us to minister to various people as we intentionally interact with non-believers on each of these platforms
d) for divine appointments (both one-on-one and community-level interactions) where people interact at a heart level, feel safe enough to share in their life/spiritual journeys and that people are drawn to Christ in the process
e) for unity within and between various ministries involved in this campaign

Soul2soul in Naked I:

My band, Soul2soul, will be anchoring some of the upcoming Cafe events by playing secular music and sharing a few stories from our personal lives and spiritual journeys. These are meant to be pre-evangelistic, non-threatening events when students can gather, hang out and just talk about whatever the songs or stories trigger in them. There will be a little bit of something for everyone, no matter where they are at in their spiritual journey. In the course of the conversations which take place at the event, some might be talking about relationship issues, some may ask tough questions about how Christianity relate to life issues, some may even be desiring to know what it is to have a personal relationship with Jesus. The beauty of the Cafe idea is all those scenarios can be played out at the same time and all can be ministered to in some way, because the ministering takes place amongst the people there (band included cos we're going to be mingling with them in between song sets), one-on-one, in those private conversations, rather than just limited to whatever is happening on the platform with the band! How cool is that?! :) This is a pretty new idea that we're trying out but we're trusting God to show us how He can use this as a means to drawing more people closer to Himself. :)

Our Prep so far:
Soul2soul has been practising since January and our last practice was just yesterday on the eve of Chinese New Year! The face of the band has changed a bit. Some old familiars like Suyin and Jason reprise their roles while we have quite a few fresh faces like Danny, Matt and James. What do I love about this bunch? They work hard, they laugh even harder and they don't take themselves too seriously! :) Mind you, they are VERY good at what they do so I especially appreciate their hearts of excellence in their God-given craft. And their easy-going natures have been a good foil to my more kan-cheong spirit! :) I think maybe they don't 'feel the heat' yet. :P

Do try and come for our acoustic gig on Feb 27, Wed, 7.45pm at Singapore Arts Cafe, Esplanade! It's the only performance open to public so it will be a great chance to see what I've been sharing about. :) But, FYI, this cannot be too overtly Christian because it's a public arena.

Given our constraints, our band is prepared as best as we can. :P And although the 'harsh task-master' in me is concerned that we're not as prepared as we should be, I'm really praying that God's grace will cover over our inadequacies and that His Spirit will really move in a powerful way.

This time round, aside from me, there are other members in the band who will be sharing stories from their lives as part of the program. I am incredibly excited about this because I've realized that the diversity of our life journeys enables us to minister to a wider spectrum of people. But with more people, comes more coordination (and so more headache!) and I'm sorry to say that I haven't done a really good job in helping them prepare. :( But even so, I'm praying that somehow God is going to help us pull through and share what needs to be shared. :)

Some additional complications are that, although our repertoire of songs are the same for all the gigs,
1) Some cafes are full band and others are acoustic (due to venue constraints) so effectively we almost had DOUBLE the number of songs to prepare!
2) Each Campus potentially has a different sequence of songs and different set of stories from the band because each one has a different focus!
The second complication is actually a happy problem because it is teaching us to learn how to develop the flexibility to flow with the Holy Spirit and serve the needs of our partnering ministries more effectively. But boy, is it a whole lot tougher!

Please pray for:
a) us to be strong in the Spirit so that we will be able to flow with all these different scenarios and walk in step with God as we minister.
b) the skill to play well and draw the audiences in to what we have to share
c) anointing as various ones of us share what God has been doing in our lives so that people will be ministered to and hunger to know Christ more
d) spiritual protection against any evil schemes of the devil
e) God's presence to really flood every single venue we perform at!

Here's wishing everyone reading this a God-blessed Christmas!

For Lillian and I, this Christmas is especially meaningful because of our 3 little ones, Joshua 7, Emily 4, and Zachary 3. They've prepared a little dance for you.... =)

It's also our very 1st Christmas with Lillian's mom, who received Christ (after 20 over years of praying for her...) and got baptized this October!!

Some other thanksgivings as we reflect on God's faithfulness this year...

• Lil & Josh 'survived' their 1st year of homeschooling
• Simon adjusted fairly well to his new role in leading Creative Communications
• Our refreshing time in the US (in July), reconnecting with God's call upon our lives, and our holiday there.
• The blessing and provision of a new (but smaller) car in May this year.
• Thankful for many of our friends & supporters for their prayers, partnership and faithful giving through the year... each of you mean so much to us! =)

May we all continue in taking his lead in this coming new year, as we anticipate his grace experienced thru new & fresh adventures in 2008!

Pattaya Sports Conference

We leave next Tuesday to be part of a special Sports Conference in Pattaya, Thailand called ACE 2007.
Various sports outreach organizations are coming together to work together, strategize & coordinate their Sport Outreach efforts worldwide . How exciting!!
The whole family is going...
In fact, Lil will be leading worship & singing as well.
Lil & I have been invited by our Thai CCC music ministry, to join them in this. Lil and I will take 6 worship sets, out of the 12 total that the Worship Team is doing. Another 1 or 2 worship leaders are taking the rest. Pray for strength for each day.... and for the joy of the Lord as we serve. Pray also for the kids to enjoy serving the Lord together with us

It's getting quite exciting for us as we gear up to go...
There'll be people (abt 600 conferrees) representing 150 countries!
We heard that there'll be people from Sudan, North India & Costa Rica.... etc.

Donuts for us?

On Tuesday, we were so blessed to have a friend come over and play with the kids.. while Lil and I went out on a simple date. Prior to that, Lil has bought a box of donuts for the kids, as a little treat for them (also cos' we were worried tt Zach won't let mommy go).

While on our date, I remember talkin' about how the kids wld surely love those donuts, and probably eat them all up. However, when we returned, we were surprised to see the box still on the table! Hmmmm....

Only the next morning did we realize that they had actually saved 2 donuts especially for us!!
Wow.. were we touched. Our little kids were so thoughtful. =)

Just the other day, Josh also did something similar... He was offered a very last piece of Milano cookie. He held it in his hand, noticed that Zach (who was sleeping) has not even had one piece, said to me, "I'll save it for Zachy!". Boy was I sooo proud of him.

He's thinkin' of his little brother, even without me prompting him.

Thank u Lord for special moments like these, that spur us on in our parenting adventure!

What's the secret of success of Creative Communications?

This was a question I posed my 'new' team of 21 enthusiastic & faithful servants of the Lord, as our recent Staff Summit. Below is sorta like a transcript from my little 'speech' to them. It's kinda long.. but it does sum up quite a bit of stuff tt's been happening the past month or more! So if you have 5mins or more, do read on....

"The past month, I’ve been grappling with many facets of my role, seeking for answers to different aspects of leading and managing CC. Some days I feel frustrated, desperate, worried, concerned, anxious etc. Other days I feel delighted, encouraged, blessed, excited, hopeful etc. Over the weekend I attended IDMC- abt Leadership Resonance etc. Thankful that I went cos’ through it, God got my attention once more. Through my struggles in leadership, I realized that I seek God for answers, a response, or some quick fix from God. But instead God chose to give insight & understanding like in Daniel 9:22..Furthermore, He reminded me, and clarified for me my key priorities as a leader. What I needed if not more planning, but more praying (1 Chron 28:20). I was more interested in formulating the blueprint, but God really wanted me to follow His footprint!

God also brought me back to the ‘beginning’ when He first called me to this new role. I realized and remembered that I feared taking this on because I didn’t know what to do. (I’ve no expertise whatsover; I feel inadequate etc.) Plus I was really enjoying.. and very comfortable leading ForeRunner. So why Lord why now, why me? But God made it clear (through 2 specific promises in His word ‘Bezalel-Ex 31 and 2 Cor 3) that he wanted me to trust Him. “I can’t.. but God can”. (which btw, is often a good place to be in. When you think you know it all, watch out!!)

In a nutshell, God led me to understand that for my ministry to make sense & succeed, I needed to lead our ministry to focus on 3 key priorities. These are not merely priorities for the interim period, but steadfast priorities for the ministry.

These, I believe are the 3 steadfast priorities in Creative Communications:

1. Know God

Our first priority, if we are to fulfill our mission of ‘Bringing the unchanging gospel to a changing generation’, is to know the God who gave us the unchanging gospel. Who really is the God who loved us and gave himself for us? Do we know him well? The first call of Jesus is not ‘Advance my kingdom’ but ‘Abide in me’.

2. Know Ourselves

The greatest enemy we ever face is ourselves. The Bible exhorts us to have a sober judgment of ourselves. That would mean that we don’t think too highly of ourselves (which might lead us to think that we can do it, and therefore a lack of dependence on God ), or too lowly of ourselves (which leads us to belittle how God could use us, inspite of ourselves). An accurate view of ourselves would help us see that God wants to use us as conduits of His grace & love to flow to our generation. He is afterall the one that qualifies us to this ministry of reconciliation (2 Cor 10:3,5,6; 2 Cor 5:19,20)


3. Know the Changing Generation

What is our changing generation? Whether young or old, do we really know these people? Do our hearts feel the pain they feel? Do we weep, like our Lord, when He saw how lost they are? We need to ask God to grow our hearts, and deepen the compassion we have for the world. How else would we innovate, generate, create & produce effective tools to connect & reach them apart from knowing & understanding the people for which these tools are for?

These 3 priorities are paramount. Even as we work on formulating plans, discussing & planning strategies & methods, we need to anchor ourselves in these 3 areas. They form the foundation of our ministry without which we’re just 'building castles in the air' (which is basically dreaming!) Or whose still, we might find ourselves building our ‘own’ castles/kingdoms, instead of His.

If we as a ministry are to stay faithful to these 3 steadfast priorities, we’re on the right track to fulfill what God is calling CreaComm to become. I’ve no doubts about it."

I'm back...after almost a whole month in the US

yep... i'm back (actually hv been back since last Monday). findally findin' a pocket of time to write this update! =)

We returned on Monday around noon, and I went back to office at ard 3pm. We had a whole week of policy review which was v. impt for me to attend. But getting back into action, and having to stay awake the whole day helped me overcome my jetlag quicker...

Many of u probably read abt the computer glitch that brought LAX to almost a standstill. We were there... in the 'thick of the action'! Our flight was delayed so we only got on the plane at 3am+... It was so crowded it was scarry. On the way to our gate, we were just being pushed along, literally sandwiched by people around us. It It really felt like we were in some local airport in a 3rd world country.I was so worried that there would be a stampede cos people were so mad about the whole situation. Our 3 kids were really brave thru it all, and stayed really close to us so they won't get lost.

While waiting to board the plane, the kids were sleeping on the floor in the terminal. It was quite eventful, not our idea of fun tho'.... But God granted us the patience, and joy (and strength, cos' we were sleepy too!!) to pull-thru until we got on the plane almost 3 hours later.

Campground with free WiFi... go figure!

Welcome to the campgrounds of the 21st century! Yep, u read correct, free WiFi!! We're staying at the Archview Campground & RV park. Actually, we're not campin'... we're chose to stay at one of their cabins here for our 2 nights in Moab, Utah.

It's fairly comfortable... it comes w a bunk bed, and a double-bed, with a tiny shower unit, and a small sink. It's got some kind of air-cooler (not quite an air-con) but keeps it fairly cool. It helps that the temperature at night here in desert cools down considerably... =)

The past 1 1/2 days we've spent enjoying the awesome creation of Arches & Canyonlands National Park. Each has it's own beauty, but each very special. You can see some of the pictures by clicking here.

Tomorrow early morning, we head to Las Vegas for 1 nite, and then it's to LA where we'll be staying with a friend, and spending time with supporters & friends.

Beautiful Colorado Springs...

We just spent 2 whole days in Colorado Springs... it's a beautiful city!

We were blessed to be able to stay with a friend who hosted us in her beautiful home. We felt right at home, cos' of her warmth & hospitality... and esp. blessed cos' she gave up her mastser bedroom so that all 5 of us can fit into one room!!

for Your promises are backed by all the honor of Your name...

I read this from Psalm 138:2 this morning. And yesterday in an opening video clip, Kent Hutcheson (a senior staff who played a major role in starting CCC ministry in Asia) said this:
"If you look at your feelings, you'll want to give up. But if you look at the power of God's word, you'll have staying power!"

This seems to be somewhat of a theme so far in our time here at CSU. And I hope to reflect his more in my next couple blog entries to encoruage those of you who read this...

Just to get people up to speed. Yep, we're in Colorado.. have been here since Tuesday (US time) It's taking us a while to get over jet-lag (people say sometimes it takes a good 5-7 days to fully adjust). Our kids are having the hardest time, which has made it very challenging for us, cos' they knock out anytime during the day, and we have to carry them, drag them around various activities etc.

It's been also rather hectic schedule. (The main conference started yesterday) But it's also been 'powerpacked'. I felt every session was prepared by God to speak and minister to my heart. I'll share more soon... but suffice to say that it's God keeping his promise to us. (And to think that I was feeling rather 'sian' the 1st few days here, not really wanting to be here...tired with caring for the kids, coping with the hot & dry weather, dealing with my own poor attitude, etc. etc)

1 key thing you can pray for Lil and me. That God would grow and cultivate in us a thankful heart. A heart of thanksgiving is one that reflects a spirit-filled life, and we desire for that. Thanks...

A time to sharpen the good ol' axe...

Tomorrow morning, we leave with the whole ForeRunner team for CSU (Colorado State University) for the US CCC bi-annual Staff Conference.

Except for Dotz, who just got married (Congrats Melvyn & Dotty!! ) The rest of the team will be there for a time of re-tooling, renewing our vision, refreshment in the Lord. We will hear from many gifted teachers of the Word, worship with brothers & sisters from the US & all over the world (get inspired in worship with Chris Tomlin!! Yes, he'll be performin' one of the nites) and of course spend time connecting with the God who has called us to this great movement in Campus Crusade!

If I've never expressed it before, I feel I should. I'm proud to be a Campus Crusade staff. I hope this does not come across as the wrong kind of pride... but the kind of pride that honors God! I do honestly believe that this movement & organization is God's idea. He thought of it. He made it happen in 1951, through the obedience & faithfulness of one man. And so we who come along 5 to 6 decades later, being involved in it in one way or another can be thankful... and give glory to God for all the wonderful things He's accomplished in & thru this ministry!

Hmmm... I didn't even know I was going to say that.. it just came out as I typed.
And I was supposed to write more about the trip. haha...

The main conference will start on 19th and end on July 26th.
Along the way, we hope to get to know others in ministry, network with like-minded ministries in areas of Creative Communcations, music, media etc.etc. It's gonna be exciting!!

Our kids will be attending the child-care program.. which we've heard, is excellent!
Do pray for them to learn much too! I really believe at this young age, they can grow a heart for the Lord, and a compassion for the lost too!

Just one more important request for Lil & me. The past few days leading up to this trip.. has been rather exhausting. Do pray for us.. as we find ourselves losing our cool quite easily. The kids are probably just being kids... but we're just too impatient with them.

Pray for us an extra measure of grace & patience... as we have to travel long distances (on plane, bus, car etc.) with sometimes cranky kids etc. Pray for us for really allow the 'Joy of the Lord' to be our strength! It's possible.. but He needs to empower us. Will you pray for us...

The Fruit.. and the stats

Returned fr our mission trip to NST & BKK on June 22nd, had a few days rest, and then it was back to a flurry of activities at work. Much excitement to share & blog about.. but alas, never quite got the chance to do it.

Maybe I'll take another time to unpack it another time.. and with pictures as well. But for now.. here's the quick and dry.. and for those who like statistics.

Leaving for Thailand again...

This Sunday, I'll be going to Thailand again!
This time round together with a couple of staff, we're leading a team of 10 students, on a concert tour to Nakhon Si Thammarat (S.Thailand) & Bangkok. This is part of our 6 week Music Mission project called the The Ultimate Road Trip!

Over the last week has been hectic hectic hectic.. cos' of a lot of last minute changes.. esp. the re-routing of our road trip. Originally we were supposed to minister in Hatyai, and the Songkhla area, and several key gigs & outreach has already been planned for us in those areas.

But the recent spate of events, including bombings in Hatyai has 'forced' us to re-direct our tour.
So now, we'll be going to Bangkok for about a week.. after a about 4 days in Nakhon Si Thammarat (NST) which is about 200km north of Hatyai.

Would appreciate your partnership in prayers as we go.

Internet.People.God.

Just arrived in Bangkok, Thailand for a conference till Friday. It's called MinistryNET conference... and it's connecting people to people, and people to God.

Part of my new responsibilities in Creative Communications would see me overseeing some kind of concerted effort in SCCC to use the internet for evangelism and discipleship. This is a whole new area of ministry for me, and I've really got lots to learn. =) Pray for God to inspire me thru this

While at the conference Alvin and I will be leading in Praise & Worship for the 80 of so Campus Crusade staff from all over the world. And we get to work with Koinonia, the Thailand CCC's music ministry once again! (which was one of the key reasons why I quickly said 'yes!' to this!)

Something's missing...

It's exactly a month since I made an entry...
Life has been quite full the past month, and I'm thankful for the many ways God has shown his grace to me and my loved ones. Lil's entry on 'Tragedy...or grace'. sums it up well..
Much is also going on the ministry front.. but I'm thankful that I experience his very real peace in many challenging situations.

Also by His grace & empowering I've been reading the bible everyday!
If I did not read for one day, I feel like something's missing in my day... It's a strange but a good, positive thing! heh heh....

Lil has been doing the IDT (Intentional Discipleship Training) in church, which requires them to do their daily readings from the One-Year-Bible, daily journals, memorize Scripture etc. And so I decided to join her in the bible-reading part, and got myself a One-Year-Bible. I guess I realised tt I wanted to 'train in righteousness' as well, and I gotta to apply decisive action if I was to go anywhere...

I try to do my bible reading in the mornings if possible, and then at night I'll log on to http://www.oneyearbibleblog.com/  to read the commentaries, see the pictures, illustrations etc. For me it helps so much to be able to visualize what the Tabernacle could look like.. and some of these 'artist's impressions' of what it could have been helps bring greater depth to the Old Testament...   Those of u Covenanters... gotta chk out the site! (u can even subscribe to a weekly summary email.. with links for the entire week's reading!)

Learning to parent...

We attend conferences for all kinds of reasons...  from training for leadership, to effective communication, to growing in discipleship, or for spiritual renewal or refreshment etc.

But this is the first time I'm attending a Family Education Conference.. one that intentionally 'teaches' and tutors us to be 'better' parents. And boy, there's sooo much to learn.
And YES, we can be trained to become the kind of parents God wants us to be... =)

While the content of this conference has been mostly about exploring education options for our kids... but because most of the instructors and presenters are parents themselves.. their journeys in parenting (thru joy & pains) come through readily in their sharing & messages. And it has challenged me tremendously to consider once again the awesome task of raising the kids God has given me.

God has awesome plans & purposes for Josh, Emily & Zach, and he has chosen to place them in our care... So we as parents have the privilege to 'partner with God' in helping them 'flesh' out this purpose in their lives. We are essentially raising adults..  We have to keep the end-goal in view.. otherwise we can easily lose sight! =)

So much I'd love to share.. but perhaps will leave for another time.

Lil & I are soakin' it all in... treasuring this special opportunity to grow & learn as parents. Truth is, we feel totally inadequate... which in some ways (as I'm reminded) is a good thing.. cos' then we really recognize our desparate need for God, and His empowering and leading in our lives & in parenting. =)

So much going on...

Much has been happening our family the past few months...here's a quick summary!

Lil's mom has been staying with us off and on, since my father-in-law's passing in November. The adjustment has been much better than I expected.. praise God!

ForeRunner's latest artiste will go 'on the road' in a couple of days, with it's 1st evangelistic concert at NUS this Wednesday! Click here for more details

We are headed to ChiangMai, Thailand for a week (fr Feb 5th to 12th)... for a homeschooling conference, and family holiday. Since January, Lil has been homeschooling Josh. It's been quite an adventure. You can read her stories at http://lilcoolmom.multiply.com

And LATEST NEWS! Lil's mom's flat got gutted by fire today.... =(   cause of fire unknown, but we thank God she's safe. The whole kitchen is gone tho' - we just saw the 10pm Chinese news, and saw that the kitchen and actually the whole apartment was all black!
she had gone home to do some cleaning, and was actually preparing to remove & 'sell' away all her idols...

Pray for Lil's brothers & family... as they help with the clean up. Pray also that the insurance can cover most of the loss.

Emily's 4th Birthday!

We took Emily out for an outing.. to swimming actually to celebrate her 4th Birthday!

Retreat Treat

Yesteday, I finally managed to go on a personal retreat.. First went to Jurong East Library, spent time thinkin', journalin at the Galilee Cafe there. Then later went to Coffee Club at IMM for coffee and a Banana Butterscotch cheesecake! Yummy... =)

I requested for some chocolate sauce.. which they eventually obliged.. after the manager when to & fro the kitchen a few times =)

Then took time to read a new book I got on Worship.
Again, reminded of the many special things happen when God 'shows up' among his people. Reminded also of the priority of worship in my own life.

Thankful for the space and time I was allowed to process things, pray, think, relax etc.
It's one of those things I love about this job!!

Advancing stronger...

A friend recently commented that Christians often talk abt going into 'retreats'...
when do we actually 'advance' against the enemy (in this spiritual war)?

sometimes, however, retreating as a team is so essential to finding our footing, so as to be able to advance more effectively and more strongly (against the enemy) !

over past few days, our team 'retreated', spent intentional time to connect with each other, with what God has called us to. I felt God met us, and that's what mattered most. There was a tremendous amount of trust and love, as we shared our lives with each other, and I'm so blessed and thankful for it.

An appropriate, essential, and a very important start to working as a team for the new year... =)

Thanks guys for all the fun times, for the honesty, the vulnerability and the openness to pour out your lives to one another!

Homeschooling adventures... so far

Today I did some 'formal' homeschooling time with Josh in the morning.
Lil had a women's mentoring meeting, I was on off-in-lieu, so I offered to help. So I did 2 topics, Bible and History as instructed by the teacher! =)

It was quite fun actually...
basically, I just read thru the bible story with Josh (today's was on Noah & the Ark). And then have him narrate back to, without seeing the text. Then it was History, takend 50 famous short stories or something liddat.. "The Sword of Domacles". Interesting story abt this rich king, and peril of power

Josh did a fantastic job in narrating, he spoke fluently, and he can even remember specific phrases in the text. But used his own words when he can't remember the exact words. Except that I found out later that he didn't understand some of the words he had memorized. For e.g. 'The servants were at the King's bidding...' He could say exactly those words, but he did not know what bidding mean. So I had to explain...

Yesterday, I also did an informal teaching on the concept of 'volume'.
I had 'accidently' produced a cylindrical shaped apple core.. when I used one of these apple corers to cut some fruits for the kids. And I asked if you knew what shape it's called.

From there I explained to him more about 'cylindrical', 'circumference', 'volume', 'measurement' etc. We searched the internet, we learn the spelling of the words. Josh spelt 'circumference' completely correct, without my help! (smile of a proud father!)

I can see in this boy a perfectionistic tendency, always wanting to get things right and to the dot. So much so that he may fear starting or trying to do if he know he can't get it up to a certain standard.

We're into week 2 of homeschooling... so far it seems quite good fr my point of view. Lil's a rather capable and patient teacher.. =) But for Lil's point of view abt homeschooling so far.. u gotta read her blog.

Center Down

Read this recently in my church magazine.. felt it was really appropriate as we begin a brand new year in Him

This is the key to being refreshed in the midst of busyness. Keep your spiritual anchor deep in God. Center down.
In the midst of our busyness, the world’s perspective is to SLOW DOWN while God’s prescription is to CENTER DOWN.

• Slowing down deals with our running; centering down deals with our Lostness
• Slowing down questions our capacity; centering down questions our confusion
• Slowing down offers us a consolation; centering down offers us a compass
• Slowing down helps us catch a breath; centering down helps us catch a vision
• Slowing down blames external environment; centering down examines our inner roots.
• Slowing down is a vicious cycle; centering down is a vital solution.
• Centering down is all about anchoring with Jesus!

In London, the geographical heart is Charing Cross. All distances are measured from it. This historic spot is referred to simply as ‘the cross’.

One day, a lost chile was picked up by a London policeman, or ‘bobby’ as they are called. They child was unable to tell where he lived.

Finally, in response to the repeated questions of the bobby, and amid sobs and tears, the little boy said, “If you will take me to the cross, I think I can find my way from there.“

So true in life as well. Take us to the Cross of Jesus, and we will be able to find our way from there! =)

Men's Breakthrough...

Just returned from our church's Men's Breakthrough weekend...
It's been an awesome few days! I'm thankful I went...

Funny thing was I went there reluctantly... at first
in fact, the night before I was feeling rather sick..and lousy. And I really did not feel like going.
But I was to facilitate a group, and lead worship on one of the mornings.. so I could not just not show up =(

So Lil prayed for me.. that God would heal me (I had a sore throat, felt weak in the whole body, had sense that I was a the verge of a full viral attack or something) and that God would bless me this weekend. And the next morning I woke up.. completely WELL! It was quite unbelievable... my throat felt normal, no other sicky symptoms at all. Praise God!

Then God used gentle reminders throughout the 1st day to tell me that He wanted me there. Hearing other brothers share about their life stories (including a guy who got married twice... to the same woman!) blessed me tremendously. Yet again, I was reminded of God's love for me... He wanted me there. He wanted to show me His love. And He wanted to do it thru these brothers.

Then my own group... who even before this weekend had already began to open up their lives to each other through email.. each of them, their honesty, their authenticity and their strong desire to be more like Christ blessed and encouraged me so much! Truth is, it was not difficult at all to lead this group. It didn't take much to coax them to share openly etc.

Thank you Lord for once again demonstrating that you know best! =)

Falling more in love with Jesus

Our Staff Summit went really well last week.. I had a dream planning committee!
Everyone in my team was self-motivated, talented and effective & efficient... it really made my job rather 'redundant'.. =) Thanks guys for making it a fun time for me! It was indeed a joy & privilege to co-labour with each of u!

Had an interesting conversation with a friend one of the nites...
It was her response to what I shared about my experiences at Lausanne that set me thinking!
She said 'Hearing this kind of stories..and your story... really made me fall more in love with Jesus...'

We went on to talk about how sometimes we measure our walk with Jesus by how much we've grown... when it might be more helpful to see it from the point of view how much we're more in love with Jesus.

We live in a world that is focussed on growth! And there's really nothing wrong with with growth.. in fact, it's essential that we grow, develop, learn etc. But too often, our perspective of growth is 'we got to get this right', 'we need to grow out of this rut', 'we need to be able to do this better' etc.etc. And perhaps as a result we get ourselves frustrated.. when we realize that we still make the same mistakes, fall into the same 'pits' in our life, commit the same sins over and over again... =( So we may conclude that we've not grown.. and we get discouraged.. or worse, disillusioned.

The past few months as I look back at all the stuff I've gone thru in my life.. and in my walk with God.. I can quite safely say that I've 'grown'... but I'd like to think that instead of measuring from a growth point of view... I've become more in love with Jesus!
Having witnessed all that He's done in my own life.. and experienced His love over and over again, unconditionally each time... I know He's so in love with me. And it's caused me love Him more...

Coming back to my conversation with my friend... I went to bed that night thinkin' ... I like it that whenever I relate God's stories in my life others 'fall more in love with Jesus'... because they catch glimpses of God's great love for them too... =) That will be my motivation for sharing my heart, reflecting all that God has done.

I pray too, for many of you who read my updates (on this blog) will 'fall more in love with Jesus' too whenever you read reports, hear stories of God's faithfulness and love in our lives!
That would make all this blogging, journalling so worth it!

Going on my 1st MRT!

Yep... in about a month's time.. Lil and I will be headed for our 1st MRT 'ride'... =)
It's ForeRunner's Mongolia Resource Trip.

ForeRunner's heartbeat has always been for the lost. However, recognizing that we cannot reach the world alone, we seek to equip, enhance and empower other like-minded music ministers and ministries to help them reach their target groups more effectively. This strategy, is in many ways, is like ForeRunner's way of 'Discipleship', multiplying our efforts to help fulfill the Great Commission.

We've been invited to train and cast vision for the staff and graduating students who are very keen on starting a music ministry. Their National Director has recently given them a green light to officially start a music ministry.

Our goal there is to further inspire them with what we do in ForeRunner... share our experiences, success models, what has worked for us, what has not... conduct some training... share some resources... show them our materials.. do some consultations (answer their questions with regards to starting music ministry, philosophy of music ministry etc.) While we are there.. of course we hope to encourage them, pray for them, share lives with them.

Lil has been 'itching' for some action.. plus she's got fond memories of our trip there in 2001 (when we took Josh then 3, and Emily then 7months). So I'm really glad that she can make this trip. Mom has kindly offered to take care of the 3 kids.. again, so that she can go freely to minister! =) We originally thot of bring Josh along.. but because of a recent asthma attack, and the cold temperatures.. (-15 degrees!!) we were advised by a family doctor not to.

Do pray for us as we prepare.. and as we trust God for the funding that we'll need for this trip...

Glimpses of heaven... in Port Dickson

It's been a good 7 days since arrived in Port Dickson.
Our time here is nothing short of amazing! Thanks for those who journeyed with me in your prayers!

The second night when we sang 'Blessed Assurance', the voices of 550 younger leaders, representing 110 nations sounded like a holy roar that felt like it 'rocked' the whole auditorium! It was wonderful! I wondered in my heart how big a smile it must have put on God's face! =)

I remember coming here with only a simple expectation... and that is 'God would show up...'
As usual, our God has exceeded that expectation, and done much much more...
He showed us among the conferees, touching, softening and molding hearts. He showed up too in a very personalized way, reaching deep into my heart to revealed many things. (that story another time, tho)

Worship brings us into the holy presence of God, and when we're there, we cannot but be changed...
Here are snippets of 'comments'/summaries of what people have been telling us about their experience in worship at the plenary times. We are just thankful, and very humbled that God would use us in such a powerful way.

I was bawling...as I worshipped God - a President of a Bible College in Japan

God brought me back to a time when I wept before him, that was a very significant time, today is a second such experience... - a Pastor from Mauritius

This is the first time I'm actually able to worship God in a real way, through music - a Pastor

I sense God has truly anointed you guys... I was able be free to worshipping God as you lead us. I sense He has much more in store for you all. - a doctor, worship leader, song-writer fr USA

Tomorrow the gathering comes to an end... Please pray that as each of these leaders return to their country, they continue to build on the spiritual foundations that God has deposited in their hearts. And continue to serve fervantly for Him wherever He has placed them.

Building a new generation of leaders...

I'm leaving for Port Dickson, Malaysia tomorrow... will be there for 9 days till October 1st.

ForeRunner has been invited to minister in Praise & Worship at the Lausanne Younger Leaders Gathering. About 550 invited young leaders from all over the world will gather to seek God, and his heart for the lost. Strategic partnerships & friendship would be forged that would help in world evangelization.

We're really excited about the privilege for us to be part of this, to be a blessing to the nations of the world!

I'll be leading a team of 7. Our top prayer request is that we'll seek God's presence, as we lead and usher the congregation in worship of our God.

Do also pray for Lil and kids, esp. for good health (Emily & Zachary are still sick, recovering from food poisoning, diarrhoea, vomitting)
